These people had two weeks advance notice from weather service. No excuses. The rescues are such a waste of resource.

ok lady they don't have to "defend" themselves- we were in Ft Myers on vacation and left Sunday. Our cousins drove and left Tuesday morning but the alerts came on Monday which was enough time to evacuate. They knew before Monday they were going to be affected by a huge storm. Even if the eye would have hit Tampa as initially thought, Ft Myers and surrounding areas would have still been affected.
So sad !

I understand people don’t want to leave their property and houses. All they had to do was go inland about 7 miles and they would have been safe from the storm surge. When you have the most important thing- your life- anything can be rebuilt and or assistance can be given. No loss of life should have happened. What a horrible way to die. When you decide to stay in the mandatory evacuation use a permanent marker to write your SSN# on the inside of your forearm so when search and rescue find your body we can identify you and notify next of kin.
