People love to cast blame in hindsight. The fires happened fast. There were 60 mph winds. Electricity, cell towers and even water systems were down fast. A difficult and impossible situation to maneuver through quickly. What happened was and is horrifying, when I look at the burn path it is hard to see what they might have done to prevent this disaster. I think the one thing we all can learn from this is to always have an exit plan, a go bag and a clear knowledge of where important papers are kept. In moments of crisis we must be able to help ourselves rather than wait for agencies to think for us. Why do we need reminding of this over and over!?!

This just illustrates the fact that government does nothing for the people they demand taxes from. All the stories are self rescue and community and citizen response. Those dry grasses are everywhere on the west Maui and the never managed it or created fire breaks even. The government should be ashamed of itself on all levels…

The experience we had here during the CA fires, people were looting, fake donation gofundmes. It brings the worse out in people – every man for himself. Heard Hawaiians don't like tourists, but they sure like our money.
