Delta passengers stranded for hours at remote Canadian base after emergency landing

Passengers on a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit were stuck at a remote Canadian military base after a mechanical issue forced their plane to make an emergency landing. The 270 people on board are now back in the U.S. NBC News’ Miguel Almaguer reports.

  1. Oh no, so horrible that you get to spend time In a developed country as opposed to going to DETROIT. My heart weeps in sorrow. Is there a Go Fund Me page set up for these victims, especially the crying woman?

  2. I don't buy that it was a plane issue. It seems that people were held hostage!!!! They got a 2 hour nap somewhere??? BS. You can tell the people who haven't traveled much!!!

The crews ran out of flight hours, not the passengers fault!!! I'd demand to be let off the effing plane and fly another airline or rent a car!!!

  3. It was horrible and she cried over it? 20 hours NO WAY!! Really, they gave them a bed and food and they talk like they almost died. What happened in the old days when the wheel came off the stagecoach?

  4. DELTA FAILED!!!!! They KNEW the flight CreW Would TIME OUT!!!!!! DELTA ONLY FLEW That plane ✈️ to save FACE!!!! GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER DELTA!!!!!!!!!

  6. Sigga gosheee for the win 😂😂😂

  7. So the crew got everyone home safely, and it looks like everyone onboard got some Tim Hortons? But leave it to the media to find the two people who want to complain.

  8. nothing wrong here… everyone did what they could

  9. Make them live out in it like Glenn Villeneuve…

  10. us Canadians always go the extra mile to help yes their plans where changed but it’s better to be safe instead of some complaining be grateful they helped gave food a warm bunker all good

  11. I can't stand passengers! There's a reason the pilots are in command!

  12. I am so glad the news anchor pronounced it properly. It’s NOT “new-FOUND-land”. So many people make this mistake and it sounds ridiculous 😂

  13. Another one that’s why I don’t fly Delta airline. It’s not safe.

  14. This is the same place where about 100+ planes were diverted to during the 9/11 attack. small island in Canada

  15. Canada.
    9/11
    Gander, Nfld.

  16. Misleading headline: A successful emergency landing. (Video never said what the mechanical problem was btw… not very informative – something seems off with the front landing gear though…)

Goose Bay may be remote but it's got the longest runway around and it's the go to remote landing strip for transatlantic flights because of its location. (I.e. it's not the first and not the last plane with an unscheduled stop in Goose Bay) (i.e. procedures are in place)

There's also a rather large military base i.e. some sort of facilities.

Furthermore the flight was from Europe so passengers could probably claim monetary compensation for the delay if they choose to.

  17. Why are they complaining .? They should be grateful the pilots landed safely under emergency conditions

  18. Why are they complaining? Newfoundland is a beatiful province. Besides they were going to detroit which is right next to Windsor- so whats the big deal?

  19. I wonder if people realize that flying on airplanes is a massive risk. These pilots acted correctly in their job. Once something goes wrong and you're in the air over water. There is nothing you can do. You are as good as dead. People need to be grateful that they were under the protection of the canadian government. Remember others have not been so lucky whenever tragedy strikes an aircraft. 😮

  20. Its not THAT isolated! It is a northern CFB and is where some of the F-35s will be
stationed when we get them. Also, many other planes landed there on 9/11.

  21. If that situation makes you cry, then you really haven’t faced much adversity in life.

  22. As a Canadian we’ll always take care of ya. Glad to know everyone on the flight was safe.

  23. everyone is doing their best and Karen still wants to complain

  24. The lady that saud she cried is annoying, like be glad the plane didnt crash and you get to see another day, i know it can be slightly annoying but its better then the alternatives

  25. Mechanical issues and emergency landings on Delta. Seems to be a pattern. Why pay extra when this always happens? Glad everything turned out ok of course

  26. An act of comfort & kindness. With gratitude.

  27. People complain??? Delta landed them safely where they could….

  28. Apologies are of no use. Compensation is realistic and justified.

  29. If it happened to me i would not complain one bit…staying alive was the name of the game.
    Canada did awesome job.
    👍
