I actually really respected his call back of his catch to gazzas run out. Has really become a good player and captain. Say what you want about baz ball, england came out with intent every day and won the morning sessions.
Sometimes collapses will make you loose, but in this case stupidness was to blame for England to loose this match!.
Great cricketer, but declared a bit too early, better to have declared around 450 and not 393 but will back Ben all the way. Reminds me of beefy..
Why is no one talking about Foakes? Bairstow dropped 4 in this game. With Foakes behind the stumps they won almost all their games. They need him back pronto. Bairstow needs to average almost 200 to make up for the drops…. Who to drop is v tricky though personally I'd let Pope go to make room he doesn't deserve to miss out but against top side you can't give away that many chances. They also missed Wood.
That declaration has to be one of the most stupid decisions I've ever seen in a test match. You never declare on day one with less than 400 on the board in fact I would say that any first innings declaration under 500 is idiotic.
Mistakes: 1. Early declaration in England first innings when Root was batting so well; 2. Delay in taking the new ball when it was available on the last day; 3rd. Giving Root an extra over on the last day when he gave away valuable runs; 4. James Anderson has passed his best, bring in new bowlers
His carelessness and clueless declaration cost them the game 🎮

Glad he can be philosophical but it was the wrong call… should have let Joe Root loose for a T20 style session and banged on another 100 while they could.
Sure, there may have been more rain, but runs in the bag can always shape for a 2nd innings declaration when you are more sure of your position in the game.
For me there's too much focus on the declaration, rather than on the dropped catches, which is what lost England the game. The old addage is still true today as ever . # dropped catches lose matches.
Bad captaincy. They could've batted more than 400 easily..that was a big mistake and should've used james Anderson in the last 15 overs.who is the most experienced bowler and expert of the new ball particularly.and the new ball taken lately too.The result would've changed otherwise.
