Drivers dodged tumbleweeds Wednesday on Interstate 5 in central California. The National Weather Service warned of wind gusts up to 65 mph along part of I-5 as a major storm hits the region.
A powerful Pacific jet stream is bringing two dangerous storms fueled by an atmospheric river to the West Coast.
This first storm is bringing a “significant threat to the safety of Californians,” Brian Ferguson, spokesman for the state’s Office of Emergency Operations Services, warned on Wednesday.
Flash flooding, mudslides and strong winds are possible in parts of the state.

One late November night in S. Dakota I heard a scratching at the storm door of my apartment. I investigated the noise and discovered a tumbleweed trying to get inside. I brought it into the apartment and decorated it like a Christmas tree. It was so very happy after that, as all it’s life it wandered the prairie looking for a purpose and a home. After the new year I removed all the ornaments and lights and set it free in order for it to tell all it’s buddies of its experience.
The whole herd came out.
