Ed Sheeran has won a copyright lawsuit that was brought against him by another artist alleging that Sheeran plagiarized his work in his hit single “Shape of You” back in 2017. A judge declared that the singer neither deliberately nor subconsciously copied a phrase from another song.

I feel for the bloke who lost, he just wanted bit of dosh that Sheeran got using his melody
Most songs ever made are a rip off of past music. Maybe not word for word but everyone gets there inspiration from someone. To also say someone can’t use a few lines that someone else used would ruin music.

A musical phrase or a part of the lyrics? The lyrics aren't particularly original, and musically about the only one who would have a case would be maybe Justin Timberlake.
That's one of my favorite songs. There's so many songs out there I'm not surprised. Like a song reminds you of another song. It's no ones faults.
I’m sorry I usually don’t leave comments like this but in my opinion, “Shape of you” has some of the most un-creative lyrics I’ve ever heard in a popular song.
