Speaking after his side were defeated inside two days in Brisbane, South Africa captain Dean Elgar was critical of the Gabba surface and said “I don’t think it was a very good Test wicket”

Fast game is a good game. Wicket had good zip and bounce. Back in 2011 SA v Aust Capetown i believe 26 wickets fell in 1 day. SA out for 90 Aust out for 50. The occasional greentop is good for the game. It was as though they were handing the SA attack a gift to start the series. This series and the Ashes next year should be excellent.
2 days?
He should have asked Travis Head lmao
You guys make a lot of noise when we prepare dust bowls in subcontinent and you now you do the same bullshit to win and then it's great test wicket.
Hypocrites
The major problem with this pitch is that it deprived us of seeing a real match. Test cricket is a test and not a series of T20 innings. Just feel gyped.
Both teams played on it which did not discriminate against either side They both had to deal with it
Elgar, stop whining and start using your feet at the crease, and tell the same to your other batsmen. SA batsmen have no footwork, and its been like that for years.
As a South African, we did not lose because of the pitch. Our batting has needed some improvement for quite some time now. Lets hope we can bounce back boxing day đđż
Same wicket same teams if they replay it starting tomorrow there would be a lot more runs scored as they adapt. Would be a 3 day result.
They just expect bat friendly wickets these days….a few guys adapted and they made runs. Great game to watch.
More pitches like this one PLEASE. That is the future for test cricket. Test matches reduced to 4 days and far more spicy pitches to stop the boring batting festivals that are killing the game. SA did well…that Aust lineup has 4 of the top 8 ranked bats in the world and SA bowled them out for 220. Head's 90 was worth a 200 on a boring flat track. SA simply couldnt make enough runs.
Play the same game on the same wicket again tomorrow and it would go 2-3 days. Perfect.
Fun fact:-New Zealand created absolutely the same wicket vs India in 2019 test series đ.
Would he have made the same points if they had won the game in two days? It's just easier to complain about the pitch. Test cricket could use some variety, so why not have the odd 2-day game. I am also curious how often complaints are raised when bowlers are taken to the cleaners. Everything becomes a taking point when batsmen struggle.
Yeah when Australia produces a bowling wicket which has uneven bounce, its sporting and when an asian team makes a batting wicket itâs docile and dead.
Mf this is called home advantage and i see asian fans freaking apologising like itâs on them to hold up the spirit of the game. Lmao
India won the test here. So please no excuses.
Just look at the damn color haha it was the same color as the grass around it.. Australian cricket is a joke, glad cricket is dying in Australia.
India mai 2 days mai test india jeet jati toh porki or Western media bolti turn wickets bana de
Poor pitch for me… the groundsman has obviously been told to make a green top because obviously Australia think they will handle it a little better than the away batsman..but this isn't England…the soil underneath the grass in Brisbane is rock hard… and when you have a thick spongy covering of grass on top it makes things extremely unfair… somebody could have got a broken hand.. and for what?… just so Australia can guarantee a win??… it's b.s
If anything, it was a huge gamble from us to prepare a wicket like that against the other top bowling attack in the world. At the end of it all, this test was defined by Travis Heads 92, because if he didn't make that big score, we would've seen a much different outcome. It wasn't easy to bat on this at all, but that's why it's called 'test' cricket. players who shine in unfavourable conditions are remembered for a reason. Unfortunately for SA, the loss of the toss and the 92 from Head made it even harder for their batsmen to keep SA in the game, but zondo, bavuma and verreynne can hold their heads high for decent displays with the bat.
Let's be honest Bavuma is only in the team be ause he is black
Weakest South African batting line up
The wicket wasn't unsafe. The South African batting was abysmal
Australian finds a new way to win matches by making tempering wickets itâs horrible to watch now days countryâs are desperate to win
"Serious steep bouncers" – that were bowled by SA bowlers on purpose, to prove a point, in spite of only having a few runs to play with.
Ridiculous experience by preparing this kind of wicket , I would say a mad act , dangerous to batsmen. Test Cricket damaged 34 wickets in 02 days, both sides have world class players to bat but everyone suffered.
The bowlers dominated and there's nothing wrong with that but the batting in general was below par. As a fan you do feel robbed of a couple of days play.
The ONLY DANGEROUS BALL bowled was the first ball David Warner got in Australia's first innings.
But he said we are not afraid of green colours
The wicket was the same for both teams. Only a poor tradesman blames his tools. One of the major principles of cricket is to adapt to the variations in playing conditions. The SA batters need to learn to move, to many were caught flat footed on the crease. Brilliant bowling, catching and fielding by both teams. Can't wait for Boxing Day, to see the two best Test Teams in the world go to war again.
I wonder if south Africa had won you would get this garbage from an Australian, by the way I'm English.
Result had nothing to do with the pitch as the bowling attacks cancel out but South African batters just aren't good enough.
But still it's not a good test match pitch due to the uneven bounce and the gabba will likely get demerit points, trouble is commenters won't remember this as long as if it was in India
He said it all….. only 2 batsmen applied themselves. They were from Australia.
Bat first of sa not in favour
If you had the upper hand excuses would have absent just play lad
Cricket has three parts batting fielding and bowling give me a break elgar
If you didn't bat good enough how can you last five
Please give Elgar some cheese to go with all that whine
Elgar is incompetent autocratic and ultimately a mediocre player and captain. He needs to go asap. South Africa should've gone with 4 fast bowlers ages ago but fossilised thought of a corrupt and uncreative administration has led them astray.
He is always complaining , remember when pitches in south africa use to behave this way, no one questions and looses a match and starts complaining
Aidan Markram in for Zondo, Rickelton in for Verreynne
Regardless of everything said in the comments,THIS WAS A POOR WICKETđ˘
Head scored 92 on it. Also scored 101 on a very similar wicket in Hobart last ashes series.
âOnly two or three batsman applied themselvesâ yep that truly sums up how pathetic batting has has become, unless itâs a road then they canât be bothered in putting in the effort and applying themselves.
Elgar always gives it big licks before a series then moans when it doesnât pan out his way, happened in England and it will happen here again
Where was the pitch ? It was all green đ¤Łđ¤Ł
When there is turning pitch in southasian conditions, everyone starts crying about pitches.
Ig after sandpaper and back-to-back defeats by India at home Australia playing it too much extra safe.
