EXCLUSIVE: Human Trafficking Fueling The Marijuana Industry

While two thirds of U.S. states have legalized cannabis, a patchwork of rules and regulations means there is still a huge black market which has seen a surge in human trafficking, according to law enforcement. Products that victims grow and cultivate often end up in legal dispensaries, where consumers don’t know what they are supporting. In an exclusive NBC News investigation, Jacob Soboroff followed the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to a raid of a black market marijuana farm.

  1. We got our own hippies here. We don't need the foreign starved masses. Go home and pull that. No quarter!

  2. You know if you just legalize marijuana we wouldn't have issues like this

  3. That's what I call embellishing a story.

  4. Well people have been eating chocolate which has slave/child labor and no one cares, why care now

  5. 1000 lbs and they aren't even getting paid.

  6. Mom crosses with child is human trafficking but if someone has education and experience that will hold the us on top is legal?

  7. Marijuana, medicine food?

  8. This whole story is full of 💩. So who was charged for trafficking. Propaganda

  9. Another reason to legalize marijuana! I mean come on the prohibition of marijuana is a ridiculous one at best.

  10. So no more different than the vegetable harvesting industry, the fruit pickers, canned good operators, etc in America who are often undocumented or are literally slave labor force shipped in temporarily to provide a service then are shipped back to their countries of origin

  11. I’m sure if marijuana were illegal again, then human trafficking would stop.

  12. Everyone cuts corners in Cali. “ Do what’s right not what’s easy”.

  13. Careful, we don't want to criticise the pot industry, their growers/customers, and apologists… They do no wrong and it certainly calms them down with their God created plant.

  14. They are fighting hard to try to keep cannabis illegal on a federal level and many states, I guess now they want to have it associated with human trafficking. Will be interesting to see what they try next till they find something that sticks. Dispensaries have plenty of grow areas and make plenty of cash. We have 1 medicinal dispensary with 2 locations in New Hampshire and they have been growing enough that their prices keep dropping. They just have a feeling it will end up at a dispensary they did not mention any proof it would or that it has. He has no idea how much comes out of the legal grow areas and how much is needed at each dispensary. Total BS just like the Nixon reports on cannabis.

  15. Owner only charged with a misdemeanor?!?!? wtf 😳

  16. What do you expect in California

  17. This is very eye opening and a bit misleading. The cannabis industry is huge and many of us work in it willingly and we have great lives because of it. I wouldn't say its fueled by trafficking, I would say it's fueled by passion for cannabis.

  18. Partly this is a regulation issue, You've only created a toxic environment by creating this supply/demand.

Try to contact some white hat hackers to try and find out who created these job ads over the internet. Find out the types of manipulation tactics, and send out a public warning.

Lastly I don't see these people as evil. If they came here to work, give them a job, let them study fot a citizenship test, learn english.

Don't tear someone down because they were trying to feed themselves, build them up so they can do so.

  19. I call BS about his cannabis going to legal dispensaries. I work in the legal cannabis industry and the metrics used to track legal cannabis cultivation are NOT easy to get around. Each and every plant in a legal grow has a tag with a barcode so it can be tracked from farm to shelf. All aspects of the industry are tracked, from point of purchase to cultivation, manufacturing, testing, and packaging, are tracked by the Bureau of Cannabis Control and all dispensaries, farms, and manufacturing facilities can be audited at any time. The cop in this video doesn't know what he's talking about. All our workers get 401K, medical, dental, paid vacation, and paid sick leave – pay starts at $18/hour.
