FAA racing to address air traffic controller shortage as Thanksgiving travel rush begins



The FAA says it is taking immediate action after 23 close calls this year, some blamed on air traffic controller staffing shortages. This comes as airlines are expected to carry more Thanksgiving travelers than ever. NBC News’ Tom Costello and Christine Romans have what you need to know.

  2. As a former air traffic controller for nearly 20 years I can tell you this is BS! There can’t possibly be a controller shortage. Replacements would be in the pipeline to replace retirees long ago. You just don’t suddenly find yourself struggling to replace people. The FAA has meticulous records of every single controller on duty and they know without doubt exactly when each controller will be eligible to retire from the day they are hired.

  5. I would have expected less people traveling. I never travel on holidays because it is the most dangerous time to do so. Also, more likely to run into delays and lose luggage. Be careful for extremist everybody.
