Apparently at random. Interesting choice of words. This guy was angry and it was personal. Could there have been a confrontation before where the larger man caused this guy to lose face? Not saying that is reason to die, this guy is scum, just seems there is more to this story than an altar boy being shot outside a bar late at night.
