A crew member on board a Washington State Ferries vessel captured the scene as rough seas inundated the boat’s parking deck near the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Officials say there were no passengers on board and no crew members were injured.

I’m from Canada and on our west coast going to Vancouver Island, the ferries going through the Juan de Fuca strait and the Strait of Georgia were grounded this past week. Such a horrific sight. My heart goes out to those on board and the crew for being so brave. 😮❤
My Dad lives on an island (literally) & has to take a barge like this daily for work… whoever is responsible for the stand-downs for this is absolutely ridiculous & prob safe to say that’s their job gone… these DO get stopped in rough weather & they’re supposed to!! For islands ect where it’s their only means getting on/off, if it’s longer than 48hrs there’s small planes to take people in emergencies otherwise, tough luck… this is just ridiculous!!! The weather gets checked before every take off… clearly it wasn’t here. Good grief!! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

It's the captains responsibility to make sure weather conditions are acceptable, which here they clearly aren't. Captain put the passengers at risk and caused substantial damages to their property. Should be charged with criminal negligence.

Honestly, this is just pure negligence by the captain and Washington state ferry system management. This was a well forecasted storm, the hazard was known but they decided to move that ferry anyway. Captain and management should be fired. This is in addition to the ferry groundings due to poor systems maintenance, an aging fleet that is years away from relief, cancelled ferries due to lack of workers, etc. This whole department of our government is sick and needs a complete overhaul.
I was stuck going through a storm in the channel, coming from Alaska to Seattle. We had a state room so could see out. The Ferry was on its side and stayed that way for quite awhile!! Scared my niece who was also seasick. Unreal waves. So grateful we didn't have our SUV .
