A previously unreported fifth person was with the four Americans that were kidnapped in Mexico but left the group before they crossed the border, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the matter. NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez has more details on the tragic incident.

I've lived on the border and haven't been to Matamoros in over 20 years because of this type of stuff. I feel the smaller towns are safer or deep in Mexico is ok.

My theory is that the girl somehow had a connection with the cartel through a burner phone 🤳 and she set them up to be robbed after supposedly being kidnapped and disappearing only to find two of them alive and the other two dead while they disappeared the two survivors got their cut off of the cartel during the missing time
