Poor family. Years ago I was snoozing on my lounge chair at Jones Beach when a scream woke me. The pole end of a beach umbrella was heading straight for me. Luckily I was able to grab it. Thank the Lord that lady screamed or it might have torn me up. Back then the beach umbrellas had steel conical tips on the poles to make it easy to dig into the sand. Haven't thought about this in near 50 years.

What horrible reporting. There was nothing about what had happened. Where it happened, when, who was she with, was she taken to hospital, did she get help, what was the day like that day, was she on vacation, was her husband there with her, none of this. It didn't even say that something had happened. Without the title, it seems like a random story about a nice lady who has passed. Anyway, may she rest in peace.
The umbrella wasn't well secured. We have a duffle bag we fill with sand and bungee cords to tie it to the umbrella top
