The Carter Center announced Saturday that the 39th president of the United States decided to receive hospice care instead of “additional medical intervention” after a series of recent hospital stays. The 98-year-old and oldest living president will spend the rest of his days in Plains, Georgia alongside Rosalynn, his wife of more than 70 years. Carter’s grandson tweeted that the Carters are “at peace and – as always – their home is full of love.”

I was born during the Carter administration. The early 1980s were magical due to President Jimmy Carter's emphasis on family & improving Native American lives.

The man is nearly 100. Perhaps he decided to let nature run its course. He lead a full life in the path of righteous, helping others as he did during his presidency. He made it possible for those stuck in poverty, 2 jobs to support a family as a single parent to expand one’s education and working skills against poverty. The government recouped its investment in the poor by turning them into higher wage earners who paid higher taxes. The CETA program under Carter needs to be reinstated. He turned my life around and now my son has 3 post grad degrees, who graduated as a Phi Kappa Phi, which included a JD degree. Jimmy Carter made this possible.

This is the terrible news I've been dreading for a while. Even though I was only 11-years-old and in the 6th Grade when he was President, I will never forget this Georgia peanut farmer. President Carter was a staunch supporter of Civil Rights, before and after his presidency!
