Angered at Victoria’s late declaration in their 1982 Sheffield Shield clash, South Australia skipper David Hookes promoted himself to open in the fourth innings, and promptly smashed first-class cricket’s fastest ‘authentic’ century (ie, not helped by declaration bowling), from just 35 balls in 43 minutes on October 25.
This edited footage of the innings, showing just 34 balls, and with a clip of Hookes celebrating a century with NSW ‘keeper Greg Dyer applauding in the background, comes from a tribute clip prepared by Channel 9 in the wake of Hookes’ untimely death in 2004

Yeah Hooks and Doug Walters are 2 players from that era that would be playing on tele right now at the WC !😎👍
What an eye. gets into position and judges the length. Also great work from Darling to give him the strike.. Did they reach the target? From my reading they were just short.
A bit like how he burst on to the scene before getting selected for the Centenary test. He was hitting quick century after quick century to force the selectors to pick him for that test.
Thanks for yesterday and today maskoffweb on youtube, you are the best thanks for always being there to save me from financial troubles

All thanks to Graham Yallop !!
How is the quality so good even if it's 1982?!
That crack, the sound of leather on willow.
When you're on you're on, and that was Hookesy at his belligerent best
