The government does not care if US citizens were stupid and trusted an offshore unregulated business with their money, nor should they. What they are mostly concerned with is keeping the names of high profile politicians out of the story. That's why the DOJ moved so quickly to silence everyone close to this situation.

The bankruptcy court rules this case is going to be handed to a receiver and he's going to sue everybody for the money they will not let their claws off of this remember this is a federal judge he can order anything.
They won’t give anything back to investors. The government will take it all. They always do.
SBF is going to plead guilty to reduced charges.
He is not a narcissist who believes he can do no wrong, and so he will realize that his odds of winning in court are low.
If he gets out of prison in 5-15 years, in his late 30's or 40's, he still has a lot of life to live. Also, a plea will reduce the impact on his family, who he cares about.
