The last Republican that won both the Popular Vote and the Electoral College WITHOUT any kind of outside influence, was GHW Bush 1988.
GW Bush lost the Popular Vote and only won the Electoral College in 2000, by pushing a recount all the way up to the United States Supreme Court, THEY shut it down. The one and only reason that he won both in 2004, was 9/11/2001 and the World Trade Center Towers getting taken down.
DJ Trump lost the Popular Vote in 2016 by just under 3 Million and lost it in 2020 by just over 7 Million, he lost the Electoral College in 2020 by the exact same number that he won it by in 2016.
That has only happened 4 times in the History of the United States and every time it was a Republican, GW Bush 2000 was #3, DJ Trump 2016 was #4.
