I can appreciate the contention that a State shouldn't have the authority to influence a Presidential election and that the Court produced a unanimous decision, but at the same time, we need to have a better system of safeguards for our democracy against demagoguery and authoritarianism that's actually effective. So far, Trump has incited a riot, declared a "national emergency" so he could use DoD funds for his wall following a government shutdown that he's responsible for, mounted a pressure campaign against a foreign government for the purposes of influencing an election, and probably obstructed justice. He'll pay for all of that by becoming the Republican nominee again in less than two months. Absolutely disgusting madness and the American people deserve better!

SCOTUS should have just ruled that Trump was totally immune from anything he did while in office and hence he was immune for encouraging and insurrection or anything else. This would have resolved all of the other federal charges against him and saved everyone time.

Since SCOTUS ruled on a question of its own creation, not one formulated by either side, can't a second application go to SCOTUS with a different question or set of questions, including "Did Trump act in such a way that the Constitution defines as supportive of or engaging in insurrection?" or "Does Amendment 13 section 3 apply to Trump (regardless of who enforces it)?
