Yet, despite the great danger to which Trump exposed our most cherished institutions, our efforts to save them have invigorated both them and us.
How so?
Here is how John Stuart Mill explained it in discussing the utility of freedom of speech — how institutions wither and die elsewhere because, when untested, folks forget why they have them in the first place:
