GUTSY Gavaskar retires hurt before belting unbeaten 166 | From the Vault

Despite retiring hurt overnight on 39 after a nasty knock on the arm, Sunil Gavaskar returned to the crease, smashing the Aussie attack all over the Adelaide Oval. He went on to post his 9,000th Test run on his way to 166 not out during the First Test of the 1985-1986 series.

  1. Thanks cricket Australia for uploading this masterpiece ❤️

  2. Proper back and across technique. VK can learn from the great Sunil Gavaskar

  3. Gaveskars flick of his legs towards mid wicket is almost the same that of Sachin's. How blessed India was to have these 2 play for us.

  4. With headgear like that he would have to be eligible to join Rick McCosker (Centenary Test 1977) wearing that "ghost" outfit.

  5. Sunil Gavaskar is a gem of a player, technically superb with immense level of concentration

  6. This is beautiful batting. It is sad to see Indian batting in last 10 years with no balance on the back-foot. No late-cuts, no paddle sweeps, no beautiful flicks.

  7. Little master 🇮🇳🏏

  8. Gavaskar is an Australian hating dochebag, deserves no respect from us.

  9. 👍👍👍👍👍Masterclass innings …

  10. For those who admire art it’s such a pleasure to watch his batting.

  11. Only Test wicket at the end there for David Hookes

  12. Just watching these shots, pure gold..

  13. Batting average 60.24 afer 110 match is not a joke

  14. Today's kids will never know about Gavaskar…He was pure gem of a cricket

  15. Back in the 70s n 80s Indian Cricketers used to get 1250 Rupees for a test match Rs 250/day(25$)
Any extra amount with man of the match/series was precious

India was still a conservative "third world country" recovering from centuries of colonialism and destruction

The 1983 WC win did some good with respect to salaries which grew by 25%

They had 1 extra pair of clothes n 1 extra bat
To see such talented players working hard to merely put meals on the table is amazing!

It's amazing how much times have changed for the better!

  16. One of the greatest batsman of all time

  17. Todays kids trolling him without even knowing his greatness

  18. Today, few play as graciously as Gavaskar !

  19. What a ordinary bowling;no swing no seam.I respect him as he played his cricket when there is no helmet and it requires a lot of courage ,but this type of bowling would not bother anyone, why people say 1980,90 s bowling was much better as compared to todays generation;i highly doubt…….
Ps ;He is legend no doubt ..

  20. ah yes, that famous headgear of SG. memories…

  21. Absolute Gem from cric aus

  22. Its crazy to see how good Sunny G was🛐
