  1. interesting how they didn't have any public 🎭 until they reached their 70s.

  2. This is so very, very sad. These guys have been together for many, many years….had GREAT songs, stage presence, and charisma.

I know they have been long, long, LONG time friends….I just hope they can resolve their difference, repair their friendship and move on.

  3. First it was Pip against MJ…now Oates on Hall?

  4. Looks like the kiss won't be on neither one of their lists. Sucks that money became the cause of this dispute.
As a musician I'd have to say Oats is the weasel for not working things out with the other 1/2 of the creative partnership (and ownership) of their songs. Somehow John thinks he owns all of the rights to sell without working out an agreement? That was a purely *sshole move.

  5. This is real sad…these guys first met in a lift, both trying to get away from a big fight and now they are the ones fighting!

  6. Need for more money 💰 and greed still sucks today, suprise.

  7. Do they really want this to be their legacy?

  8. I don't see the issue here, if they established a partnership, there had to be a contract or agreement established. It would have made sense to include a "First right of refusal" clause. Even if somehow that was overlooked, it's easily resolved, one partner wants to sell, if that's a problem for the opposing partner he needs to be prepared to meet the sale price, if he can't…..

  9. Please put your differences behind you. Work it out. One of my favorite duos of all time. The love of money is truly the root of all evil. They wrote the soundtrack to my teenage years. I still listen to them and can remember every word of their songs. Their music has staying power. True icons and living legends.

  10. I just love them so much!! I wish this wasn’t happening. So so sad.. My favorite musicians of all time. I am sure this happens a lot in the Music industry. Look at the Beatles etc. I know Daryl was the lead and probably created more but John agreed to all those years as backup singer and he did create some songs along with him. He played the music with him. He deserves some recognition. Praying that they will make amends. ❤❤❤

  11. Oates, you lose for choosing a lawyer with a bigger mo than your own.

  12. Is the love affair between these two gay icons over? Probably. 😕

  13. Say it isn't so & out of touch. Well, Hall can't go for that.

  14. This is unfortunate. I'm a fan and stood right in front of the stage with my wife watching them. They're good together. However, Hall sold a huge part if their catalog years ago and admits that was a mistake. Oates wasn't consulted in that sale. He's called Oates a tag along with little talent and on and on. These guys started together in 1967! Yes, they were kids and if Oates was such a bum, Hall could've dropped him in the 70's. Some of the things he's been saying and doing to Oates are disgusting. They're each 75 now and it's clear they won't work together again, so why not Oates sell his half and move on with his family. Hall was blocking him from touring and playing their sings Hall claims he wrote and Oates doesn't have a right to perform. Again, they're 75 and life is short, so this is sad.

  15. Now we know! John Oats should be ashamed of himself

  16. I wonder what T-bone would have said about this crap.

  17. From what I’ve heard so far- I’m kinda leaning #team Hall (even though I thought his comments from Bill Maher podcast were a bit heavy handed).
I’d want at least a heads up from my business partner and I’d also want to know who the buyer is and the terms of what is essentially 1/2 mine.
Do they each own 50% of the songs (publishing)?

  18. John oates is broke and wants to sell the catalog yet he never sang mostly Daryl doing everything John just stood there collecting money

  19. Oats was basically a backup singer. Dude needs to get over himself.

  20. A dream for lawyers, they will wind up profiting from the issue that should have been reliant on contractual obligations alone.

  21. There are very few equal talent duos, Tears for Fears, Simon and Garfunkel, Wham , etc etc, I’ll let you figure it out who has the greatest share of the musical talent.

  22. A Daryl explained.. Oates often gave no input into the songwriting itself and wasn't even in the studio or appearing on many of their big hits.. but he graciously took credit as if he was. Half the catalogue was really a generous gift rather than earned, and to toss it away for a few fast bucks.. that's the ultimate kick in the gnards.

  23. I guess this means they won't be touring anymore.

  24. He must need more plastic surgery

  25. Well, it’s a case of POSSESSION OBSESSION

  26. Hope John Oates don’t sell his share to Disney! Look what happen to Star Wars and Marvel?

  27. Very Sad; I thought they were good friends. Great music and both Legends.

  28. Mediocre soft rock that was MUCH BETTER in the 1970s !

  29. Most partnerships have a buy/sell agreement giving the other partner the first right to buy. There is more to this than meets the eye.

  30. Keywords here: His half. If Hall wants to sell his half of the rights, etc to songs that he solely wrote then why not! He and Oates can split money from duo contributions etc but Hall has the right to do what he chooses with his work. Hope they can resolve this amicably but I'm on team Hall on this one.

  31. Crazy how bands end up! Sad!

  32. Will Reeve grew up on Halle & Oates or…more likely…an intern came up with those puns?

  33. Oates is basically try to screw his old partner Hall, yet he plays the victim card. Seems deplorable to me.

  34. They’re overrated..let’s be honest
