A monument of Harriet Tubman was unveiled in Newark, N.J. in replacement of a state of Christopher Columbus. The piece features an abstract interpretation of Tubman featuring audible text with narration from Queen Latifah. WNBC reports.

Another statue to tear down!
She doesn’t deserve a statue any more than every white soldier that fought the Democrat south to end slavery.
A heroic figure. But compared to Columbus, she was a nobody. The war against history progresses.

Why replace Columbus, not just add a Tubman monument? Another reminder of just how divided we continue to become as a nation.
Columbus lost his job because he would not stop sending boats full of dead natives back to Spain that he sent to be sold as slaves.
That is why he only had 2 voyages, he tried for a third but was denied for stupidity.
Look it up.
Christopher Columbus' accomplishments outweigh Harriet Tubman's. Do not judge historical figures by modern standards. Columbus proved the existence of an entirely unknown hemisphere, joining Old World and New World people, and that travel between the two was possible. And he did so in 1492 a time at which Africans were busy slaughtering and enslaving each other. Imagine the surprise the first Portuguese traders experienced the day they first set foot on the Ivory Coast only to find all the institutions of slavery already in place…

If we are gonna be building statues of people that discovered and lived here.. we should be building statues of native Americans and Leif Erickson.. Harriet Tubman deserves statues though too.. she did more than enough… not sure what Columbus ever did for us… except retread already explored territory.. i mean he essentially got lost in the grocery store looking for the spice rack.. i do that every day and i dont have any statues of myself 😛

Harriet Tubman was an amazing woman who was fierce and a force to be reckoned with. If people don't know about her, then just go to google and do some reading. She deserves to be recognized for her brave actions.
