Gov. Josh Green (D-Hawaii) warned that climate change could make “fire hurricanes” like the Maui wildfire more frequent, and preparation systems need to change. “It’s a catastrophic loss. It’s our largest natural disaster since statehood,” Green said. “It’s like a nuclear weapon went off in Lahaina.”

We have had a similar situation in Boulder County Colorado that destroy/damaged 1000 homes in hours. But everyone was able to evacuate – full engagement by police and fire crews. Compare the two situations and similar 80 to 100 mph wind driven fires over dense tall grass.
