Liquid helium, the lifeblood that cools MRI machines, is now at risk since it is a nonrenewable resource found in limited areas around the world. The U.S. was relying on Russia for a larger supply, however, the war in Ukraine has halted almost all trade in that country. NBC News’ Dr. John Torres has more on what the global shortage means to the future of these essential scanners.

In the US, every major hospital in a city has an MRI. There also are many owned by doctors’ groups. In places like Canada, there usually is one MRI per average-sized city. Perhaps a better use of helium would be centralized MRIs.
So interesting. Mind blown!
You can always get it from the moon
There are only 3 main helium deposits on planet earth…
You can't manufacture or reproduce helium
Stop selling it for balloons.
Also the military uses it to clean out their rockets that is helium are used to work in industry that used helium to analyze chemical compounds for purity
Maybe prohibit balloon companies and recreational use from having it🤷♀
No worries! Our planet doesn't need it's elements anyway! Duh! Let's have a parade and go to a dr to live longer! We can all move to a new planet once we've taken all of earths resources!
Guess I will die because you are not getting me in one.
Because of lack of uranium mining or high temperature plasma metal oxide heating systems. Youd probably live in the land of milk and honey . But you love oil and fatherless whores
Eventually with enough I.T. and no energy technology. We wont be told to care . I cant wait
Helium has long been a resource that the US had in massive amounts, including the largest stockpile in the world, until congress decided they should sell it off so everyone could have helium filled balloons for parties.
Would be nice if parade use could be recaptured for party balloon use.
Enjoy the parades while you can. Parades may change to Mardi Gras float style. Still fun and prettier in my opinion.
Soo next is helium shortage!?
I'm done sitting tight for the award advance since i acquire$23,000 every 12 days of my investment.,.
Cancel chemistry now! How dare they assume Helium's preferred pronoun. I'll never use chemistry again.
As far as the Big Parades… hmmm. regular air and guide them with Drones!
This Helium Shortage is NOT New… yet there’s been no ban on freaking senseless, wasteful and damaging, polluting balloons! This is not an infinite resource. It’s Finite. We don’t need the stupid floaty balloons. Fill them with something else. Air even and stick em on sticks!
Dang, our Dollar Tree store is hoarding helium for balloons. We have a couple year's worth. There are 16,000 DT stores in the US.
I’m surprised they have not done away with the helium and used some other type of refrigerant system that could circulate through the machine similar most splits systems on your home. But obviously change out the refrigerant that could get down that low.
Only a few specific SUPPLIERS are running low on helium. Not all of them… A certain U.S. based industrial gas company had the foresight to build up stock smartly & secure domestic & oversees spigots.
Don't forget we are almost out of diesel fuel also. Democrats will turn us into a Mad Max society before long.
Simple solution , make it the law that unless for medical purposes companies can't purchase helium for useless things like inflating balloons
The earth is over populated to sustain ourselves.
Well ban the use of helium for balloons. Problem solved…how much helium is wasted on dumb balloons?
At the current rate of consumption, we will run out of helium in about 25 years. They will need to find a better solution soon.
I watched a video about the us helium reserve a year ago which stated there is an 80 year supply in Wyoming.
Biden 2024! Vote him in again and we will likely run out of oxygen.
Balloons or healthcare? I chose healthcare.
Distraction time
Story about a helium shortage begins with a balloon being filled with helium That is not how you transfer helium to a MRI machine. If you do a segment about food shortage, will you start it by smearing a cupcake on the wall?
Balloons are one problem that spans at a much larger picture than just helium. MRI machines are another.
Climate issues are much larger than those combined lol. Climate issues are probably 10× larger than both of those complaints combined.
Look, just know this with Capitalism:
Your well-being doesn't matter as much as you want it to.
If MRI and balloons make money, that's all they really look at.
Even if MRI machines don't make enough money, they'll still try to continue balloons so the profits can keep going.
Face it: if Capitalism doesn't care, then they won't want to hear you unless someone actually will understand with an open mind and not gluttony.
MRI machines are important.
Balloons are just fun and bring happiness but also, sadly, waste that hurts ecosystems. That, should be a worry for unstable ecosystems can fuel climate problems, and put in danger more than thought of.
Use less balloons. Keep supply for medical. Keep ecosystems better (if we even can anymore). Ban balloon releasing even if the people want to all over one person's simple death (which to be honest, they don't have to throw so much drama over. No offense). Start using different things and change whatever and we'll be better. These days, not gonna happen as easily as wanted.
