Over 200 people have died in boating or swimming accidents at Georgia’s Lake Lanier since 1994, fueling theories that the manmade lake is haunted.

Three people were killed this past week at Georgia’s Lake Lanier, authorities said, adding to the more than 200 people who have died at the man-made lake since 1994.
On Saturday, a 61-year-old man was found in 46-feet of water in Lake Lanier after swimming from a boat “when he went down and did not resurface,” the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said in a statement sent to USA TODAY Monday.
The Georgia DNR identified the man as Tracey Stewart.
That evening, a 27-year-old man was swimming from a boat when he went under and did not resurface, the Georgia DNR said. The search is ongoing.

Such a stupid video. First, you had to make a claim of racism when there is none. Second, why name an incomplete fact. The death toll is over 700. You're saying it's bad that a small town was moved. Saying it was predominantly black. So You're upset that a small "predominantly" black town was moved to support a vastly larger predominantly black city. Your logic is so flawed.
Lanier is the 5th largest lake in GA, the biggest is Clark's Hill on the GA-SC border in the Augusta area.
Lake Lanier can be very dangerous at times because it was never meant to be a recreational lake. Only a water and power source. That said, there are thousands of trees and stumps that are not very deep at all, along with many others structures that are just a few feet deep as well at times. So really, anyone at any given time of the year can get hung up quite easily and drown. But haunted. "I don't think so". Additionally, there are so many people on Lake Lanier year round with no stop signs, no traffic lights or traffic controllers which makes it a very dangerous lake and everyone simply needs to slow down and follow the simple boating and lake rules but for some reason, some just can not help themselves. Please be safe and enjoy yourselves on our wonderful lake that most of us truly love!
You guys are always building something over black people's Graves
More than haunted.. what a horrific and true story.. evil
I live by this lake and swim in it all the time. Not haunted and has just as many tragedies as any other lake. But we do find those missing cars when the water gets low
“Displaced”
The only thing haunted about Lake Lanier is the alcohol that makes people drown, and the people who can't swim that get into the water without a life preserver. Lots of towns were flooded, she picked out 1 small one to mislead everyone.
Uh…you forgot the part about the white racist mob viciously attacking and then chasing the prosperous black people out of Oscarville after a white woman falsely accused a black man of sexual assault.
The angry white mob aka the night riders, slaughtered men, women, and children…stole their livestock and other property….burned down their churches….then made the ones who were able to flee, choose between being shot & killed or jumping off the bridge into the water & swim to safety (if they could make it) when they were cornered.😡 Many of them died of course. Lake Lanier now covers the once prosperous & thriving black community – broken burnt buildings, street lamps, race track, homes, churches, dead bodies and all!!!🤬🤬🤬 There’s no wonder why the lake is deemed haunted!!!!
It’s time to stop telling half-truths and whitewashed versions of our history!😡
It’s deadly bc of drinking and boating, but yes there is a town under lake Lanier and boats have to be careful during a drought where low water levels will have trees, church steeples, and gas station signs sticking up past the surface. Buts it’s mostly alcohol related
Lmao
It’s definitely not haunted. People die sometimes around or in bodies of water all the time. No, taking their houses wasn’t right but it’s not haunted. Been going there and in it for years since I was a kid. Been to multiple houses on the lake too with zero issues and with no one I know around it having issues.
Lies
People die on that lake because they get drunk and do dumb shit. As long as you avoid Memorial Day and the 4th of July you’ll be just fine
That’s not the correct history.. an Caucasian girl was found dead outside the town then a mob came in and lynched and murdered residents over 700 people and then they flooded the town
I hope it is cursed for what they did to that Black community. I hope it’s cursed forever
2nd one this week! Our ancestors are rising up!
That’s what happens when people continue to release gators into the lake.
Yeah, but did they have to…,
Trees were only topped off so when the water is low you can see limbs sticking out of the water. All these trees and the tangled fishing lines make dangerous conditions when you jump and dive in. Don’t know anyone who has any haunting stories but many know of someone who drowned.
Bru I swim in that lake
I have a coworker who's best friends just shot herself at Lake lanier a few days ago
I live right next to Lake Lanier and I know better to go swimming in there. Beautiful lake but don't go swimming if you know what's good for you. Had a guy a couple of weeks ago get electrocuted while standing on his deck and then he fell off and drowned in it.
Its not cursed! Have you seen ghosts, have you felt a strange dark force pull you to the waters edge while a serpent grabs you and drags to the depths? No? Okay then stop with the damn folktales
this a load of horse poop
Hey! You have some of your information off.
Oscarville was abandoned by the time lake Lanier was created because in 1912 a 19 year old white woman named Mae Crow was found deceased near the town and the people of Oscarville were blamed and the towm was destroyed.
No one lived in Oscarville except a few people.
Its not haunted people just don't wear life vests also theres a lot of BUIs.
Have you heard of a real microphone? Thanks for the Scary information I will stay away from the place
It's just a big old pile of bull shit
You should be ashamed! You seem to have skipped over the true facts, of what really lead to this place becoming what it is today. 🤦🏿♂️
I live on lake Lanier. Besides my dock being popped on by ducks and the occasional ghost, it's been great!
Its either unsupervised kids or drunk adults.
Stop drinking while Boating,not haunted
No, they hid old cities and stuff that people shouldn't know about after 1812.
It’s one of many flooded (previously black) towns. You can flood us out, but the spirit remains.
