House Democrats Introduce Draft Proposal To Start Decolonizing Puerto Rico

House Democrats introduced a draft proposal called the Puerto Rico Status Act which would allow Puerto Ricans to vote on the island’s political status. If passed, the bill would hold Congress to any binding result that Puerto Ricans move forward, including U.S. statehood.

  1. Puerto Rico is a deep cut in America.

  2. Nah, honestly we can’t keep things right for the existing 50 states. Leave em be.

  3. Puerto Rico was already a part of Spain not a colony when the United States invaded Puerto Rico. We weren't freed or saved like USA propaganda implies. Usa made our flag illegal and tried to change our islands name to Porto Rico because they couldn't pronounce it. USA also tried to change our language an imposed their own Governers to rule the island until the 1950s. Also gave us USA citizenship 1 month before USA declared war in WW1 and for what reason? you guessed it we got drafted and have fought every war they have being in since WW1 and we are still look down on. 61,000 Puerto Ricans fought in the Korean war and fought bravely and brought home 8 medals of honor on that war alone. People in the USA don't know crap and barely even know their own history. While under Spanish rule, Puerto Rico fought alongside the American colonists in the Revolutionary War. Bernardo de Galvez, the governor of Louisiana in 1779, was named general of the Spanish colonial army and led his troop — consisting primarily of Puerto Ricans and other Hispanics — to capture the cities of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Mobile, Alabama; Pensacola, Florida; and St. Louis, Missouri, from the British. We deserve better and can do better without their shackles.

  4. Interesting because Spain colonized Puerto Rico and Cortez was one of the most famously brutal colonizers.

  5. Was admiring the very beautiful news reporter then suddenly – Ewww! A.O.C.

  6. This is a good thing.!! They should be a state or territory of the USA. Be allowed to vote.!!

  7. Hopefully PR votes for independence. That way the USA can tell them to take AOC out with them!!!

  8. The US bombed Puerto Rico in 1950

  9. It shouldn't be up to Congress to search what's in the heart of the Puerto Ricans. It's up to Puerto Ricans, first and foremost, to reveal where their sentiment lies as whether to become full-fledged U.S. citizens or Puerto Rican citizens. After 53 years since the first out of six plebiscites for status organized by themselves, they still don't know where it is. One more election, this time imposed by Washington, would be seen as intrusive. I don't think Washington should push for a decision unless it comes spontaneously from Puerto Ricans first, so to ascertain where their heart really lies.

  10. Let Puerto Rico be independent and let it solve it's own natural disasters and financial aid.

  11. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA si claro, vamos a ver un cambio… Si claro. Ya no hemos bailado este tango antes?

  12. How many seats will Puerto Rico get in the house and the Senate if they become a state? 3 million residents. 3m votes and some chairs that can decide elections. Let it sink in.

  13. Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 must be granted independence by US 🇺🇸 imperialism now. When Puerto Rico gains her independence from the United States of America, she must draft and ratify a constitution that accomplishes the following:
    1. The adoption of the separation of state and religion which will guarantee and protect civil and religious liberties of Puerto Ricans.
    2. The adoption of a presidential system with a President and Vice-President. The age limit for the Presidency of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 should be 26 while the age limit for the Vice-Presidency of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 should be 33. The power limits of the Presidency of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 should be 9 years, 2 terms.
    3. The adoption of a bicameral legislature known as the Puerto Rican Congress that consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The age limit for the Senate should be 39 while the age limit for the House of Representatives should be 51. The power limits for seats of the Senate should be 4 years, 6 terms while the power limits for seats of the House of Representatives should be 7 years, 3 terms. The age limit for the President of the Senate should be 45 and his or her power limits should be 5 years, 4 terms.
    4. The adoption of a multi-party system.
    5. The adoption of a new flag, new national symbols, a new national anthem, and a new national motto.
    6. The adoption of a mixed market oriented economy.
    7. The creation of 18 States with new constitutions, new legislatures, new state courts, elected governors and deputy governors.
    8. The adoption of a judicial system.

  14. We all know that Puerto Rico has only option to prosperity is to become a state but most states would prefer to be a independent country. It's to costly to maintain gets hit by hurricane to often

  15. Puerto Ricans have voted against statehood every time it has came up

  16. When are we going to decolonize our Southern border

  17. I think it would be cool if puerto rico became the 51st state, They already pay US taxes and are considered us citizens I believe, they would just have an actual say in what goes on in america if the bill were passed and they voted to become a state

  18. Can we give Puerto Rico away and write it off on our taxes?

  19. We want to be free and become a Republic just like the US.

  20. Is it ANY part of the WORLD that Amerikkka hasn't stolen?!?! Smdh 🤔😡

  21. Unfortunately, I don't think the Bill would pass the Senate, as many do not want (or is not convenient) for PR to become a state or a free country.

  22. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 🇺🇸🇵🇷 PUERTO RICO 51 STATEHOOD

  23. Statehood like Hawaii. GOP says no because they'll be Democrats because Peurto Ricans aren't white like the paper towels Trump gave them to battle hurricanes.

  24. just let's onboard PR as the 51st state already!!

  25. ¡Libertad para Puerto Rico!

  26. The irony is that the Puerto Rican's are the actual colonizers of the island. It's why they speak Spanish; they were the very first colonizers of the new world.

I'd like for the vote to be one way or the other. Statehood/Independence, & for it to be binding. No neutral position anymore, no more territories ignorant people claim we are colonizing despite many more Puerto Ricans living on the Mainland.

  27. That's my sister Puerto Rican in the house love it love it love it

  28. A lot of us just want to be a territory but she didn’t add that option we just want to be treated like dc at the least

  29. 51 state is safer, for the ecosystem and enviroment.

  30. No Greenland, no Puerto Rico. 😂
