The House of Representatives has voted to pass a bill to avert a potential rail strike ahead of the holiday season. The bill now heads to the Senate where Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., plans to propose an amendment to include paid sick leave for workers. NBC’s Ali Vitali and CNBC’s Lori Ann Larocco report.

So the members of Congress with unlimited sick leave, tell the rail workers who work 24-7 in all kinds of weather, during holidays, and weekends, that if they get sick the must perform their duties of operating trains up to 14,000 feet long with up to 500 double stack containers worth uncounted millions of dollars, or not get paid if they get sick, more than once a year. Once again "free market" capitalism wins.

Allow them to strike! The government has nothing to do with private business! Greed will win and they will pay whatever the employee wants. Stake and share holders will force the business to do so!
They will be a lot of sick calls. Lots of people quitting too.
The game was rigged from the start and the media helped by intentionally zeroing in on how a strike would negatively effect the economy while ignoring the relatively minor grievances of the workers. From the very beginning the media has been gaslighting the public into rooting against the workers and begging for the government to intervene (manufacturing consent). If these workers are that important why not give just give them what they are asking for? Biden could easily say he wont sign a bill that did not include paid sick leave but wants to pretend his hands are tied.
Sick leave? Give it to them!
A few PTO sick days is not much considering the heard work they do for the country. They should get weeks of it.

This is a labor agreememt between a company and labor union. The union doesnt bargan with government. This is dangerous , in the union favor this time but what if the government the government find the next time that the company is right and forces cuts in pay or benefits or both ?

What is the take on railroad insurance companies on this per the risk of a tired and overworked engineer or conductor? I am sure the actuaries would have better rates for railroad companies because of more sick leave and paid time off.

America is brought to their knees by these fraud of unions, the real railroad workers are the foreign / immigrants that were brought to the US to build them . No benefits and cheap slave wage.
Railroad workers should all strike, the government should not have the right to force a company to give you benefits. no benefits, find another job. the railroad eventually would have to increase wages to compensate for lack of benefits or just give benefits. why not pass laws forcing all business to give us 30 days sick, 60 days vacation every year? that would buy some votes.
