News reporter: will you be contributing to affordable housing?
landlord: yes, if you can't afford then move
News reporter: 😕
I thnk this is the new way to address homeless crisis and I like it. In the past you only had two options, go into a shelter or live on the street (for many people, especially with families that is not a good option), I realize there are a lot of people who don't care about others and assume all homeless are drug addicts/lazy, its not the case for a lot of homeless, they just cannot afford rent where they live and they cannot afford to move to a cheaper area (some people become partially disabled so their income drops, but they cannot qualify for government assistance either). And they don't have family/friends they can stay with either. We need more of these micro homes built in areas where the land is cheaper, I think they could cut the homeless population in half within a couple years if they got rid of these massive shelters that are costly to run and many people will not stay in, and just put the money into building more home units like this. There are plenty of private donators (corporations and individuals) that will donate money, the problem is when it is run by big government they squander too much of the money doing all kinds of nonsense research studies and legal fees, etc.
What promises are there to provide housing to people? Where is that in our Constitution? How many of these people are addicts? Or come from fatherless households?
I'm all for ending the perpetual cycle.
And what about the people who are severely mentally ill who will never be able to take care of themselves? What do we do with them? Lots of the homeless people I see in encampments near where I live are drinking, doing drugs, don't want to live by society's rules, what do we do with them? It's a huge problem and it seems to me that they are just putting bandaids on a small portion of the problem. I'm not complaining because everything helps, but it isn't enough. The police move everyone out and two days later they move back. It ridiculous. In the old days, they had poor houses and psychiatric hospitals. They didn't let people loiter in the streets wherever they wanted. The lack of response is making the tax payers miserable.
It was never the intention of any homeless service agency to end homeless b/c they would be out of a job. The majority of homeless are from other states where they have an address & family. They are delibrately "homeless" away from their family, so no one they know can bear witness to their wild in out behavior. According ot the NIH >5% are addicts & ~ 5% are mental ill. Most of them want to live free for free at taxpayers' expanse b/c they get exceptional benefits: disablitly pay, food stamps, unemployment & stimulus money. Shelters will help those from other states and countries like Canada get residency in California, so they can get these benefits. End homelessness by ending funding for these agencies & social services. Statisically these "homeless" village are less than 40% successful in transitioning occupants to permanent independent living. There are plenty of empty aparment buildings/buildings that can be cleaned for reinovated for homeless housing if that was the actually intention. B/c there was never a housing shorage in California, it was a lie spread by real estate corporations to exapanding developing real estate on the mountain side after Fish and Wildlife destroyed the mountain animals. Those homes have/are built for flim locations.
Let's get the other 57 counties in Calif on board !!!
Brtttt
If you come from other third world country, you will think American people are so spoiled.
Rehabilitation + infrastructure of housing = success. Housing alone is not enough. Appreciate the example and coverage.
Create fentanyl camps….great.
Amen
I'll be back next year to watch the story on how somebody stole a bunch of money from this. See ya then!
Good that our media is finally focusing on solving our own domestic problems!!! All these social problems need more media attention or they will never get attended to and solved.
California needs to build UP
Hope is a goal. Are we there yet?
The first place you get after homelessness is like a castle! No matter where you have to live. There were literally gunshots every weekend (and snakes came up through the dishwasher) but it was still better than homelessness.
They're lazy
providing housing? you should only provide the housing help to those who have actually ended up in that situation due to our broken system… you cant start providing help to the at least half if not more who never were trying to make it in the first place..
When the homeless live in nicer housing than those who are working three jobs, it isn’t fair.
As long as the homeless have the right to refuse housing and remain int he sidewalks nothing will change. Little of the homeless crisis has to do with housing, most refuse it.
These are great points, but I will say, growing up poor, wasn't always budgeting, and life skills lacking, it was the matter of not having enough money to survive on.
Oh please. Yeah these folks profiled aren't really HOMELESS! They are folks who live in a county Santa Clara that is just like Marin County, expensive expensive expensive. They can always move inland where people live in cheaper rentals.
This is all for show. Go to LA, SF and see hundreds of real homeless.
Oh pls migrants will fill these places before anyone does…..
I'm thinking about becoming homeless, and when I do, I'm heading straight for balmy and liberal Calli-for-nigh-aye baby! Gonna go on the draw, pick up a surfboard and a tent, and live the beach life. 🏄
Yeahhhhh, glad i'm not living there paying taxes to do this.
Cost $65K per person to serve homeless? If they use that money to paying rent, they can rent 3 houses with 3-4 bedroom. If 2 br apartment, you can pay rent for up to 4 apartments. You can get 6 one br or studio in many communities.
The more they get the more they want. Some of these people are used to getting over on the system and it costs me and the other hard working Americans to support and house them.
Good reporting 👍🏽 Thanks to all the people working to make the lives of these people better. 🙏
Unsheltered street homeless are fentanyl addicts nowadays, and fentanyl destroys humans mentally and physically beyond the point of repair very quickly. Actually, fentanyl pills called blues/M30/Fetty contain fentanyl, rat poison, benzo, horse tranquilizer aka Tranq, ISO, nitazene chemicals, and other extremely destructive synthetic chemicals. Street homeless encampments are nothing else but lawless open air fentanyl markets. How do they support their fentanyl addiction? By boosting which is stealing items from stores that they can quickly sell for fentanyl pills. Police does not enforce any laws on street homeless unless they first spill blood. Street encampments bring fires, theft, break-ins, prostitution, open drugs use. They gradually destroy everything around themselves. Where I live, street homeless break int unoccupied houses and destroy them by pulling wall wires out and cutting metal pipes just to sell for fentanyl. They smoke fentanyl all day long, one after another. They will destroy any housing we put them in because they are not capable of living in organized manners.
There’s so much money that can be Share the people and get people in the houses
This is Going On EVERYWHERE! Greedy @ss Landlords charging Enormous Rent Cost, plus fees for this, fees for that, fees for this, fees for that, pet rent, pet deposit, non refundable Application fees, non refundable background check fees, 2-3 months security deposit to move into a dump!!!!! NO America is NOT Stable Anymore! We ALL Need Affordable Housing! Get rid of these Crooks in this Country! We Need Homes!
I'm moving! 😁
Thank God everyone managed to have kids first and then become homeless. Perhaps have kids after you can support yourself. I think approximately half of the homeless population is also mentally ill or on drugs, how is free housing helping them to get a job or not be a threat to others or stop the drug epidemic? This does not mean I don't support it, I just think people need to think more about how they live their life and make decisions. Domestic violence, etc cases are perfect for this but I think in general, they are an exception.
Homelessness is one of the worst parts of this world
Why lie about the numbers we know it's more people homeless here in America. When it shouldn't be. We will let others come here and make sure they have a place to stay while I own. Citizens literally sleep outside walking in their cars. With their children but we will put illegals up in luxury hotels. It makes no sense to. All the money we're spending on others around the world. No American citizen should be without a home. 😡
What a waste of resources
this is only can to cause MORE problems. people are going to flock to these areas.
WE NEED AFFORDABLE PLACES TO LIVE!!!!!
we don’t want to force taxpayers to support working effing adults That make $50k and we have to pay $55k MORE!!!
robbery
Greedy landlords, pass rent control
We spent 400 millon on programs all over the world billons and we can home our homeless in little tiny shacks? U till they get on the fret
They'll do anything other than actually figure out what is driving this.
Thank you! It’s always a cost. The wealthy here need to understand this and stop acting on the Malthusian (catastrophic) assumption alone.. but take a look around.
Well when he vote Democrats into the White House that you know have been and continue to be corrupt with the stupid fiscal policy.
No wonder the migrants are pouring in.
California is a Democart dump!
The fetinol is working. 300 a day die. Far more die than get housing. This is EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT !!!!!!
By building bidenvilles
