The last statement was good. "They will be sleeping outside" … They will have cell phone service". Well, that's fine but what good will having cell phone service do except for one thing? Gonna call for an Uber or a pizza? 911 won't get you anything but a one-way paid ride of the ISLAND. If you didn't evacuate on time, meaning you thought you were above common sense to simply drive a few hundred miles three days before a known storm was going to hit, you literally brought this on yourself.
Imagine that you could be sleeping outside almost anywhere but being stuck on an island where you may not see normalcy for a year.
Yada yada yada. You live on an ISLAND. You will get help as soon as possible. It could be in six weeks or six months. Many of these areas won't even be accessible for a year or more. If you did not evacuate in time it is your fault but if you are alive and healthy but won't move to safety at this point you're not getting any sympathy.
Maybe you can go to a Jimmy Buffet relief concert somewhere?

I hope I don't know any of the deceased but it is sad to loose a loved one or family friends. All I can say perseverance,your faith will get you through this you can rebuild and clean up and keep living your lives in Florida rebuild and sayu strong Florida is your home and paradise. You can servive and get through this devestation. Hurricanes come and they go it happens just please don't let this interrupt your way of life and your pride for those that have survived hey now it's time to keep going and living your lives. Just happy everyone was realistic, responsible and smart enough to have full insurance coverage. Please don't tell me we have thousands of seniors who carelessly lived day to day beside the ocean thinking nothing could happen…well it did…so start rebuilding and get back to the PARTY!!
Seems to me that these offshore sandbars would be better put to use as wildlife sanctuaries and national seashores than as retirement playgrounds for fat old Republicans.

We have to Aid these people just like the people in California with their fires this summer. I can't say it will never happen to me here. But while I am safe and secure for the present I can help my fellow neighbor.
