As Hurricane Ian moves towards Florida’s west coast, it’s leaving a trail of destruction across the Caribbean, including Cuba, where the storm made landfall early Tuesday morning. NBC News’ Guad Venegas reports from Havana.

Last time I was in Cuba just four years ago food was not rationed as we think of rationing. Rather, people receive rations of various food items such as rice, beans, sugar, baby formula, etc., to supplement their diet and their own food production. Everywhere I travelled in Cuba people were growing fruits and vegetables, keeping chickens, and fishing. Cuba is the urban farming capital of the world. The evacuees, however, will need to have food provided, just as we supply food to people evacuated from areas where there are forest fires and floods.
