Officials in India imposed a ban on the export of non-basmati white rice which has led to panic buying across the U.S., leaving shelves empty from coast to coast while store owners limit sales and hike prices. NBC News’ Meagan Fitzgerald reports.

I used to eat basmati rice. But now I change the habit of eating Thai Rice.
I live in USA. I do eat rice, but not that often. Basmati is usually what i have. But its just me and how i am. So i wouldn't miss it. But i do realize a lot eat it and depend on it and want the kind they are used to having.

Hiking prices; the American way.
basmati is much lighter on carbs because it starches out easily on pre soaking in water several times. keto is big and so are other anti carb diets. the other rices are enjoyable but feel heavy and make you lazy. they are smart to not ban basmati or alternatives such as TEXMATI would boom in local american markets. i still don't know the strategy yet. it will create a need for the poor of india to be eating the other kind of rice which makes more filling like most carbs but will slow down society like caffiene which does the opposite.
Thank the American government for paying US farmers not to grow and depend on the rest of the world for are food. Complete lunacy
