The Department of Corrections in California is testing a new model aimed at rehabilitation in hopes to lower violence behind bars and cut down the rate of reoffending after release. NBC’s Steve Patterson visited a Valley State Prison to see how the state is implementing the changes.

Well, as long as they aren't weight training and power lifting, I guess.
Locking people up and throwing away the key never did anybody any good. I like this new approach.
Also you need to vet who you hire well beforehand please don't hire these guys to yale Prinston Columbia LOL
You should try this on Juveniles' Iam 74 and was in lancaster industrial school for girls back in the 60s an basically that is how it worked it taught you skills then they stopped it
and they started foster homes which don't work in my opinion. that is the Government for you Lancaster was in Massachusetts
Wow it only took a century for people to realize that putting “bad people with people who may have just made a mistake”
Has a negative effect on rehabilitation .
Only thing Pedos get early release and illegal immigrants get better living conditions than the inmates. Yayyy California
No more studying this cocept! It works in Scandinavia, it works here. It makes complete sense to anyone who understands human behavior. Just think if we applied this education model in schools in low income areas. Create environments that prevent the problems of crime in the first place. It's called HOPE. Start with teaching kids to do what the live in life, not that college is the only answer! The answer is to make money and success doing what you love.
And this is why they keep offending. Why not break the law if you get 3 meals a day, cable TV and more opportunities than we got on the outside. If opportunities like these were available to ppl on the outside, then we wouldn’t have ppl going to prison for them. This is bs. Commit a crime and have a nice life in prison. That’s why they reoffend.
This is the way it should be!!
It's about time our country started treating prison as a place to reform and rehabilatate instead of a revolving door with no hope for anyone (inside and outside including families)! Will it work for everyone, no. Will it help men and women who want to find a way out and the resouces to do it, yes indeed! Well done California, well done!
I lived in Norway. It seems crazy but the system works.
What's the return on investment for prisneyland? I wonder if it's higher than most private prison 🙃
If who is selected to go there are already judged less violent, it sort of deletes the lack of violence there…however, if it acts as a good step to stopping institutionalized effects, violence, etc., then it does, and should be expanded.
Yep, another feel good approach that will be an abject failure in 20 years.
Scandinavian countries have been on this model.
We've known for decades that our prison system is a failure. In countries where they treat inmates like human beings, the crime rate drops. We cannot be cruel and inhumane and expect people to behave correctly. The punishment is being locked up. To add cruelty to punishment says more about us as a society than it does about felons. Horses are perfect. They are big and strong, but sensitive and intuitive. They have a spirit that imparts a sense of peace…all animals bring humanity…they help us all to be better people. 🌹
Our system is designed to break people. If we want to be safe, we need to heal people.
Now this is a great start to prison reform
Prison admin: "We're not in the punishment business."
Tax payers: 😕
Great
60 minutes did a story on a program like this in Germany years ago. This is nothing new. It makes a lot of sense. It really works!
Exactly
If family's, schools, and society was more supportive beginning when everyone was a youth, this same concept would probably reduce crimes in the first place.
this is still worse than norway prisons..in norway you have a room for yourself you don't have to share it with 7 others
It sounds like a positive plan. I hope it works..
This is really cool! What a great way to rehab these broken individuals
Most people go to prison and come out with zero resources forcing them to recommit the same type of crimes over and over again.
ty so much. PEOPLE MUST CONSIDER HOW SOCIETAL RE-CONDITIONING IS VITAL
This is a Better Way for Us to Go with those desiring rehabilitation
oooooh…"it sucks" alright.
