An Iranian government official denied on Monday that Tehran was involved in the assault on author Salman Rushdie, in remarks that were the country’s first public comments on the attack. A spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Iran “do not consider that anyone deserves blame and accusations except him and his supporters.”

A Blatant Lie.. Iran's leader Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against Rushide in 1980s & called for his beheading & also put a bounty.. And years after another Iran's leader Ali Khomeini called for Rushdie's beheading.. and several Iran based Extremist groups have carried out attacks on Rushide & Rushdie's attacker Hadi Matar was also influenced by Shia Extremism & Iran's supreme leader Khomeini

Iran's denial is merely an acknowledgment they are responsible for the brutal attempt on Mr Rushdie. The fatwa was never rescinded. Their hatred of him confirms what he has said all along about religious extremism. I have great pity & sorrow for the people of Iran. يه روزي آزاد ميشي
If Salman Rushdie criticized Judaism in his 1988 book, he would have been branded antisemitic and his career would have ended. No one would know him in 2022.
