Unfortunately the view and corresponding narrative in the West is that the Iranian government is like the Taliban in Afghanistan: “They hate girls to study and hence poison them”. If you go and ask the opinion of any average Joe in the US, this is what you hear from him that he hates it and “Iran must stop doing this to innocent girls who just want to study”.
On the other hand, according to the UN, Iran is officially considered a semi-developed nation which means while it can’t produce things like chips or jet engines, it still can do most other things a developed nation like the US can.
Iranian government, no matter how much devil, will not be comparable to Taliban, and would never ever do such a pity thing. What is certain is that like in any country, in Iran, there are also right wing extremists who take matters in their own hands.
Remember how some of such right winger extremists attacked the US Capitol at the end of Trump`s administration? Did the US government under Trump ever directly orchestrated the attack? No! Right wing extremists took the matter in their own hands and did it.
This incident is also done by such groups in Iran. Khamenei, unlike Trump, has asked for the severest of punishment for them and you have to be sure as a dictator who he is, his words would be followed and the culprits have a high chance of getting punished.
