Yes, you're absolutely right. As I said above — WE broke the peace in 1948, when Israel was authorized by the western colonial powers without any input from the actual local people living there. Those people — 70,000 were driven from their homes, and 15,000 were killed — which would be a crime against humanity even assuming the western nations had the right to give the land to the Israelis (which is highly questionable). But, the violence actually began at least 20 years earlier when thousands of Zionist zealots arrived illegally from Europe and America believing that they had the God-given right to take the land. They had a slogan, “A land without a people for a people without a land” – they had already declared the local inhabitants to be “unpeople”. When local authorities tried to deport them, they launched a terrorist campaign in which they attacked government buildings and ports, police officers and British soldiers, as well as killing and terrorizing civilians – including many native Jewish families who simply wanted to continue living in peace with their Muslim neighbors, as they had for hundreds of years. (Of course, the largest of these terrorist groups, the Haganah, later became the core of the IDF.)
