When we hear the toll our minds are prone to absorbs it as faceless numbers. I imagine after returning from Ukraine it hits home it’s obvious that human suffering is occurring.
Senior citizen? I doubt that he’s a day over 40. His Fulbright was in 2009.
Am looking forward to some good on-the-ground reportage from him. Like millions of other people I’ve watched hundreds of hours of coverage on news stations from around the world, each with its own reporters and this gentleman is the first person who mentioned the nits and grits issue of whether people had the money with which to cross the border — although I have a feeling that this requirement went out the window as millions streamed into Poland, Romania, etc.
I remember his first appearance and being concerned for his wellbeing. He wasn’t protected the way that war correspondents are: no hotel, meals, hired driver, security, etc. Then I caught his interview in a car when he was hitching a ride and now he’s back, safe and sound, in one piece, at least until July.

Secondly, I am touched that Joshua had the humanity to ask how his guest was doing. But that concern was only half-hearted. Why? Because this reporter returning home from a battlefield has openly admitted to suffering from PTSD. Not by name but by mentioning a classic symptom of the disorder. I felt that Joshua should have taken a few moments to at least acknowledge the suffering of his colleague. Otherwise, great interview. I think total liquidation of Ukrainian state as inherently Nazi state is inevitable now.
