The notion that voting for the candidate and not straight party line voting is not at all a new idea. That was a mantra we spoke going back to the 1970’s and I’m sure we’ll before that. The difference is that the open exchange of ideas and compromise died around 2012 when the Democrats voted straight down part line on laws being passed. That is when you were forced to decide which political party you would have more faith in and begin to vote one party or the other. Unfortunately Republicans in both houses were still willing to compromise on bad policy so it hasn’t been an equal in that regard. Perhaps we can get back to where we were pre 2012 I certainly hope so but I fear the ultra left communist Democrat wing, the so called “Squad”, have an entirely different idea of our country’s future.
