It was a "very slight recession" that caused George H. W. Bush to loose his job. Recession brought on by Bush agreeing with the Democrats to their "soak the rich" increase in taxes on boats, luxury cars, jewellery, furs etc. Rich people just stopped buying those things, so the people working in those areas lost their jobs.

An employer can afford to pay an employee $50k per year. They pay the employee $42k and take the other $8k to pay their healthcare premiums WHICH IS BASED ON THR HEALTH OF WHO WORKS THERE!! So if you have a bunch of OLD AND/OR UNHEALTHY people working there you are SUBSIDIZING their expensive a** premiums. California's AB5 is doing so well, right? Seniors, those with disabilities, and women were all made employees over night right? Musicians, transcriptionists, translators, truck drivers, promoters, programmers were all hired by the companies they were working for, outstanding!
Reality is the majority lost their gig jobs or moved and those hit hardest are the most vulnerable seniors & the disabled. The inconvenient truth is that our independence is a threat. It has nothing to do with making a living wage. If we all made $500k+ a year they would still see it as their duty to right this injustice.
