Every Democrat I know has said they're voting Republican lol. I mean, it's pretty clear which party is better for the country.
There's a couple of reasons why the usual history of midterm elections (losses for the President's party) doesn't apply this year.
1. Midterms are normally a referendum on the performance of the sitting President. But normally, the ex-president has dropped out of the picture. This year, the ex-president is taking up at least as much attention, and is exerting as much influence over his party, as if he was still in the White House. To cap it all, the ex-president claims that he actually won the last election and he is still the legitimate President. So these midterms are a referendum on the return of Trump as much as a report card on Biden.
2. Overwhelmingly, this year's Republican candidates either deny the legitimacy of the 2020 election or they dodge the issue. This raises voters' anxieties about whether Republicans can be trusted to hold offices which will give them the power to accept the results in 2024, or possibly join in a Republican effort to hand the presidency to the Republican candidate (presumably this will be Trump, if he is not in jail).
3. The Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade has led to a wave of state abortion bans and Republican proposals for a federal ban, which are extremely unpopular, as demonstrated by the referendum in Kansas in which 59% voted to preserve their state's constitutional right to abortion – a landslide victory for abortion rights in a deep red state.

Looking at the 46-46 polling versus the hypothetical candidates, this may end up being a status-quo midterm rather than a Republican wave. I saw that Fox News projected the GOP would just gain ONE SEAT in one of their recent poll reports in the House. I didn't see what would happen in the Senate, but the conventional wisdom is that the Democrats would at least hold their majority someway, some how.
