LAPD investigating death of 51-year-old man who died in police custody | USA TODAY



USA Today blurred portions of this video for privacy. The LAPD is investigating after 51-year-old Derrick Harden died in their custody.

A Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner spokesperson told USA TODAY the case remained open Tuesday, but foul play was not suspected in Harden’s death.

He is the second person to die in an LAPD station jail this year, according to records provided by the department. Inmate Joseph Bayardo, 35, was found unresponsive in his cell. in late March, according to LAPD’s website.

  1. That is so sad that a man who was the son of someone dropped dead in his jail cell with nobody their to hold him in his last moments of life on earth.
    The guards did their best to help. But you could almost see the soul lift from the man's body as he fell to the floor.
    Rest his soul in peace.

    I guess it’s easy to mistreat your inmates when you’re a robot though.
