If laws say raise limit to buy a gun until 21 then you need to prevent joining the military and provide free education and health care until 21 as well as no taxes on earned income until 21. Don't take away rights without giving rights too.

You don't need assault weapon on the street at all. Those are made for war zones to provide maximum damage. They had to use DNA tests to even be able to identify the bodies of children. ER doctor who has received bodies with AR injures have said that they have never see such wound to try to repair during sandy hook and that most were impossible bc the exit wound that an AR leaves, there is nothing left to be able to stitch together. Mortician who prep the body to be able to have an open casket have said that it was near impossible to have a presentable open casket bc of how the damage of the exit wound of such a weapon creates. A weapon so powerful that even police officers with bullet proof vest were afraid to engage bc of the amount of damage they know such a weapon can cause. Assault rifles have no business being available to the general public who you can even trust to not run a yellow traffic light but we expect the general public to be "responsible enough" to own an AR-type weapon? I mean, you can't even trust ppl to be responsible enough to wash their hands with soap after they have used the bathroom but we are to trust individuals with assault weapons? 🤨 It's absurd.
Forget the age. I think it should be a tiered responsibility system of gun ownership. You can get a hand gun like a revolver (6 bullets) then after x-amount of year of responsible ownership you get to ability to buy a hand gun that use a clip with more bullets, then after x-amount of year you can, iunno, buy like a shot gun. Basically, the access to buy a higher amount of firepower goes up as you show you can responsibly carry. And by the time you've reached the top tier of gun ownership responsibility, you can own things like an AR since you've proven that you are responsible enough to carry that. It's like the military, you don't just give a n00b cadet the tank to drive. You train them up to be able to handle that otherwise they'd blow the whole base up playing around. It's absurd to give the ability to purchase such a devastating weapon for an 18 yr old with no training or background/mental health checks. You're giving the ability to have that much fire power to someone at an age where ppl have fights over someone stepping on their sneakers. I don't know. Maybe you can speed up the ownership process if you have an adult in your family that is well experience in firearms and you can prove that they have trained you in responsible usage —and/or also sign have to sign their name for the gun and be responsible for that younger person to own a more powerful fire arm much like a temporary driver license where the parent is still responsible for that driver and have stipulations like an adult sitting next to them to use. If you say responsible gun ownership then let's be responsible in how they are given out.
