Pele' transcended his sport. Even people who didn't follow sports knew of Pele'. Descanse em paz, rei. Voce era o melhor.
As a child I loved and played soccer, but being a young black boy playing soccer in the south was not considered cool especially when Football was everything. I used to read books on Pele to inspire me to play through all the teasing. Thank you, Pelé.
