When Ben Clark got married in Iowa this month, his best man was someone he had met just the day before. More than 10 years ago, Jan Rolfes donated life-saving stem cells to Clark from thousands of miles away. NBC News’ Kate Snow has more on their emotional meeting.

Got the call that I am a match a couple weeks ago while sitting on my grandma's couch watching Antiques Roadshow. Definitely not the caller ID I expected to see considering I did the swab years ago. I just had a baby so it's a 12 week wait to get further testing, plus I have a mild heart arrhythmia but my cardiologist doesn't think it will present a problem. There's usually a handful of hopeful matches and then they pick the best after further testing. Hoping that one of us will be good enough for this 21 year old cancer patient

I was also saved by a beautiful, altruistic stranger on the other side of the world, 10 years ago. Gifted me his stem cells all the way from Germany. It's anonymous here in Australia… I guess that's not the case in the US? I did write a letter to my donor to thank him, via the hospital. I hope he received it. His stem cells literally saved my life when I had Leukaemia. Not all heroes wear capes.
