Penny deserves a medal for his quick-thinking and decisive action. It's stunning that the mayor and district attorney of New York have arrayed themselves against him with their outrageous and prejudicial comments.They have wittingly turned New York into a banana republic, with a rule of law more akin to Zimbabwe. Tragic and shocking! That he was charged at all simply defies credulity.
My question here is why is family asking for justice for a situation they created? Don't forget he had a mental illness and he was homeless, were was this family then???
I don't know why he is trying . He is a white guy in Gotham. He has no chance. But then again if he is wasting the state money then that is actually a good thing .

More important questions should be:
-Why didn't you just simply walk away instead of letting a homeless person hurt your feelings?
-Why walk towards a confrontation instead of finding ways to non-physically de-escalate?
-Why didn't you just call the police instead of trying to play police?
-How could you possibly fear for your life or the life of others when Neely was clearly incapacitated in the choke hold?
-Why did you apply such excessive pressure when you could have just restrained Neely in that locked position? And the biggest question is, how much of the $3 million dollars is going to your lawyer and how much are you pocketing from this murder?
Penny may not have planned on killing anyone, but he did go too far. This was no way self defense if it was Penny who admitted to taking steps towards and engaging Neely in a physical confrontation. A sign of bad moral character is lying about self defense when it was clearly a physical fight between 2 belligerent and unhinged parties. I doesn't take much to overpower a starving, malnourished homeless person. Penny should have stopped excessive pressure once he got Neely in a locked position.
