Everybody is going gaga over the Indian bowling performances in the last couple of games. But make no mistake, South Africa is not shaking in its boots. If there is one batting lineup in the tournament which can put our men in blue under pressure, it is the Proteas. They already know about our plans. We have grown very comfortable with the five-bowler strategy and with Hardik unavailable for the next game, we are likely to go in with the same template that has won us our last three games and aim to execute the same plans. And that put us at a disadvantage because if we cannot execute it perfectly, we do not have a Plan B. I hope the strategy devisers are looking to plug in our holes. Irrespective of how Shreyas Iyer played in this match, keeping him in the playing 11 in the next match would be a mistake as he does not fare well against the bouncers no matter how much he may deny in the postmatch conference. The height of the South African pacers give them a natural advantage over him. Bringing in Ashwin might be the right call in place of Shreyas. He gives us the sixth bowling option, and a good one if the pitch turns at Kolkata. I can feel it in my guts that SA are going to target Shami In the next encounter. It might look desperate but it is actually brilliant if they decide to do that. He is our first change bowler and in red hot form. If they take him out of the game early on, it will be lights out for us if we indeed decide to go with five bowlers. Ashwin is not as good a batsman as Shreyas, but both have equal chances of getting dismissed in single digits on Sunday. Ashwin can be good number seven batter after everyone else moves up a place to fill up the hole left by Shreyas. But of course, no one wants to change a winning combination and it appears that we will field an unchanged Indian team. I just hope South Africa does the same and keep Temba Bavuma up at the top. The toughest match in the World Cup would sort out the players and show us who can rise up to the challenge. It might still be a one-sided contest but do not presume which team will end up on top or you might end up being proven wrong.
Kudos to Bumrah Siraj and Shami. They made hell for batsmen in a batting paradise.
