Maui County EMS Chief Herman Andaya has resigned, according to a county spokesperson. Andaya faced scrutiny and tough questioning for his failure to use the emergency siren system as wildfires ravaged communities.

This should be a bright red cautionary story to ALL Americans who think that the proper role of government is to "Take care of people". This character is a very typical government bureaucrat. And he evidently thinks that the citizens of Maui, whom his job is to "protect", are little more than mindless sheep who would hear a siren and then drive, run, or walk INTO a fire. He basically said exactly that.
Your government is NOT capable of taking care of you, or anyone else. Your government actually thinks of you as livestock to be herded around, monitored, milked (for $$) , shorn and eventually be put down or slaughtered when you cease to be of use to them.
Stop voting for politicians who promise to make your life safe and secure and free from worry! THAT'S impossible. START voting for politicians who want to shrink government as much as is reasonable and let YOU be responsible for your prosperity, safety and security. You will find the journey rich and rewarding, especially when you surmount challenges along the way.

One thing I never understood. When someone screws up on the job and makes a mistake, they will often get fired. Now what I don't understand: for most reasonably competent and motivated people who make a bad mistake on the job, who, out of the whole U.S. population, is LEAST likely to ever make that same mistake again at the same job??
So you fire that person and you lose someone who learned from a mistake they are almost certain never to repeat again.
Gotta admit, the tsunami sirens would have had people run into the fire instead of the ocean.

You tube has a few walking tours of Maui. The shop buildings are old and made of wood. Not really this man's fault. The walk tour has sprinklers in side shops but maybe not on the rooftops.

Please investigate the siren test logs. After the fires in Lahaina ended the test documents conveniently disappeared from the County of Maui Outdoor Warning Siren Testing site.
Why were they questions his qualifications. 0:49 was he given a job based on race and not qualifications…. As so many others, that's the sad part of this tragedy….
