Every summer for the past decade here in Dallas I have looked out my kitchen window at the thermometer on the fence (6 feet away) and in the sun in the morning, shade in the afternoon. Every summer the indicator goes up to 120* – and stays there because it can’t go any higher – for several weeks. It’s like living in the reverse ecology of northern Michigan.
While we might be “used to” the scorching heat, it is extremely dangerous if the power to run air conditioning is not available. (No different than having no power to run a heater when Michigan temps drop into the -20’s. You can die.). Affordable, abundant energy should be the priority. (It’s O.K. to use natural gas and coal!).

I just feel bad for all the poor dogs that are forced to stay outside in their backyards. Most of my neighbors keep their dogs out all day in the 100+ degree heat with little shade, not like that will make any difference. I don't know what's up with the south but they like to torture animals.
