Legal experts say the Mississippi public defender system is underfunded and fails to provide counsel to people who cannot afford their own. This has left people waiting behind bars for legal representation. NBC News’ Aaron Gilchrist spoke with one man who spent years waiting for a court-appointed lawyer.

This is being done on purpose. IF anyone thinks MS wants to provide ppl w/legal representation especially ppl who are not white. They should do an audit, we know MS is getting federal funding. Its just being stolen by the people overseeing the programs(s).

There's a constitutional right to a speedy trial so how come the federal courts in that area didn't order some kind of a mandate that this can't go on? And why has their state supreme court not gotten involved on a constitution level and a state constitution level two demands feed atrocities people reason mobile and the right to counsel under Gideon?

So hire more public defenders. Offer structured school loan repayment programs for public defenders so they can afford to be public defenders.

My friend told me of a black man from Minnesota who spent 3 months in jail because he had a new truck. I can only imagine how long he would have been there if he had actually done anything illegal!
How about a case that's expunged but resurface every other year with new fines and fees. This happens all the time everyday everywhere. No one is spared you almost have to be a lawyer yourself or your on the hook for years. If your not with the status quo the system wants you finished. Haven't anyone noticed everyone has something in their background files nobody exempt, it just takes awhile to dig it up.
This is nothing new. Our entire judicial system is fueled by money and exposes the reality of America not being a Democracy anymore. It's an illusion 🇺🇲

We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. The justice system is 87% white making black Americans suffer gives them great pleasure. In NYC Kalief Browder was in Rikers island because some guy said he stole a book bag never seen a lawyer for three years. NYC is the richest city on earth.
