It always shocks me what is possible in the USA. abortion ban? spanking? Anyone can carry a gun and no health insurance? Unemployment insurance? As a European German I owe a lot to the USA, but how do you want to lead the world with such a broken value system? My catholic high school had old paddles on the wall for decoration. Good thing is was banned. They didn't care about discipline at all, it was just a way for pedophiles to get off.

Yes, sometimes kids need discipline. Hitting will only leave bruises and traumatize them.

I went to elementary school in Pacific, Mo. and although I was never paddled, I very much remember the cries from children that did. It was obviously traumatizing to me considering it's one of the few memories I have from my 3rd grade year. I remember what my teacher's name was, playing soccer on the field during recess, and the crack of the large wooden paddle coming from the hallway and the screams from the kid who was getting hit. I'm 49 years old now and I remember that more clearly than anything else. If it affected me this much, I can only imagine what it did to children that were struck with that paddle. In case you've never seen one, they're about 2 feet long, 2 inches thick, made from a very hard wood. They could very easily fracture a child's hip or tail bone, or break fingers or hands if a child suddenly grabbed his buttocks as they were being paddled. I did not spank my kids when they were growing up, and if I found out an adult would have done that to my child, they would've had a serious problem!

If a parent hits their kid with a wood paddle it’s abuse, why would anyone let schools do this! Kids don’t feel safe now imagine if schools start this ! Teenage kids are the hardest to control and they are to old to spank …..not a good fix at all!

They paddled a lot in the school I grew up in and it done miracles for discipline! Matter of fact…THE MIRE SIGHT OF A PADDLE HANGING IN THE HALLWAY HAS THE SAME AFFECT AS A COP CAR ON THE SHOULDER WITH ITS LIGHTS ON! But, it matters none because parents can opt out. It's not forced like the liberal media would want you to believe!
