The dream of building world democracy started in 508 BC in Rome it failed and the world continued to be full of many types of authoritarian rule for more than 1000 years. The only way I see the war in Ukraine ending is for NATO to make a special exception allowing Ukraine to join the NATO alliance, and giving Russia (Putin) an ultimatum setting a timeline to retreat and cease all further attacks on Ukraine or face retaliation.
Russia, by itself, doesn't have enough funds, ammo, artillery, and military personnel to sustain a prolonged war against NATO forces. More than likely, and we are actually, currently seeing this happening now, where Russia is trying desperately to forge alliances with China, North Korea, Iran, and many of the " stan" countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan excluded), as well as some of the smaller former countries of the Soviet Union that border Russia.
As we know, Putin has no end game. If by chance he does take over Ukraine, what is there for him to be joyful or beneficial about. He completely destroyed Ukraine.
If Putin was smart he would callback his troops and pay retrobution to Ukraine and it's citizens.

~ The problems associated with The Ukraine – Putin War are confounding, per as they have to do with the oil deposits in Crimea, & how they will be able to be industrially processed if the war continues at a continuous stale mate.
Russia wants to prevent them from getting into The Urkraine's hands because that would affect it's economy as the #2 exporter of it's own oil which is right across the border from The Ukraine.
~ Then Corporate Republicans like Trump had a deal with Putin to devise a plan to keep those oil deposits in Putin's hands, whereas Putin's first war with The Ukraine thereby annexing Crimea where the oil deposits are located, with the war excuse that many more Russian speaking people were occupying the area so that was an easy excuse for him to declare war on The Ukraine, per as they would side with Putin.
~ On the other hand, NATO with U.S. Democrats on their side, are very much interested in the same Crimean oil deposits, but don't want to escalate a world war with Putin, by accepting The Ukraine into NATO just yet, Hunter Biden being one pawn in the initial scheme to set a foot in the door per say, to get in on the oil tycoon business, which failed, when the 1.8 Billion investment went into defending The Ukraine in 2014 when Putin decided to challenge The Ukraine's stake in the oil tycoon business.
~ In addition, now we have to consider that any new oil industries now have become scrutinized under the watchful eyes of Climate Change activists who claim that Climate Change is due to Carbon Dioxide excess, when in fact it is due to carbon monoxide caused by uncleanly burned fossil fuels & other oil derived products.
So this war is going to continue at a stale mate's pace, until some kind of negotiations come to fruition.
Otherwise the U.S. will continue to overspend on The Ukraine/Putin war until some kind of compromise is reached.
~ Give Crimea back to The Ukraine, since Putin already has enough oil, & let The Ukraine capitalize on the oil it has discovered, but keep shipping lanes regulated & open to both countries that have to do with oil exports.

I'd be willing to bet over 50 percent of American don't know what we are providing to Ukraine to begin with. How can you say more or less assistance to Ukraine when you don't having a starting point? All we really know is that America has been providing financial, economic, weapons, and training assistance. But we do not how much and to what extent. We do know that Ukraine is requesting additional assistance and I believe that ALL interested stakeholders in Ukraine's independence from Russia should be putting their money where their mouth is and assisting. If they are not helping Ukraine, don't complain when Russia takes over the country and all of its resources including control of the oil and sea routes. Even then, everyone will be pointing at America and saying, "well, if the US would have done more…" This is not America's war, although we've been trying to help with more and more assistance. I want a free Ukraine and am American and I'm all for my country assisting. But hello, European Union? These are your borders. Step up or let it be known you will stand by and watch this genocide happen on your door step.
